Basic Levels
A1 (Beginner Level)
A person:
- understands and uses familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases.
- introduces themselves and others.
- asks and answers questions about personal details, for example: where someone lives, things they have, people they know.
- interacts in a simple way when the other person speaks slowly and clearly.
A2 (Elementary Level)
A person:
- understands sentences and often used phrases, such as: basic personal and family information, going to the doctor, doing shopping, employment).
- communicates in simple tasks based on a simple exchange of information on routine matters.
- describes in simple terms issues related to their background, immediate needs and matters associated with immediate environment.
B1 & B2
Intermediate Levels
B1 (Intermediate Level)
A person:
- understands the main aspects of clear input related to well-known matters regularly used in work, school, leisure, etc.
- deals with the majority of situations likely to appear whilst travelling to a place where the language is spoken.
- produces simple connected texts focused on familiar topics, or areas of personal interest.
- describes experiences, dreams, events, hopes & ambitions and give reasons/ explanations for their opinions/plans.
B2 (Upper-Intermediate Level)
A person:
- understands the main points of complex text (concrete and abstract topics).
- interacts with a fluency that makes an interaction with native speakers possible without strain for either party.
- produces clear, detailed text associated with a wide range of aspects and explains an opinion on a specific issue giving the positive points and drawbacks of various options.
C1 & C2
Advanced Levels
C1 (Advanced Level)
A person:
- understands a wide range of challenging, complexed texts, and recognises implicit meaning.
- expresses themself fluently and spontaneously.
- uses English flexibly and effectively for lots of purposes: social, academic and professional matters.
- produces clear, well-structured, sophisticated text on complex subjects, demonstrating controlled use of grammatical forms, patterns, vocabulary, connectors and cohesive structures.
C2 (Proficiency Level)
A person:
- understands with ease nearly everything heard or read.
- reviews information from various spoken and written sources, recreating arguments in a comprehensible presentation.
- expresses themself spontaneously, fluently and surely, differentiating numerous shades of meaning even in more challenging circumstances.
